The Patch with My Peeps

I've been knee deep in a home improvement project. For a long time, I've wanted to turn our messy, underused coat closet into a makeshift mudroom. Of course, Pinterest helped with this little idea that was always in the back of my mind. I would see spaces that were much more functional than the one we were (not) using. I felt like I could dream about what I wanted knowing I didn't have the knowledge or the tools to get me to the finished product. That is until a few weeks ago. A friend built a beautiful piece in her actual mudroom with hooks, cubbies and a chunky bench for her family. I love it. I told her how much I wanted to make my closet more functional with something similar to what she built. She offered her help over and over and I would use the standard, 'someday'. One day (in a weak moment) I called her back and we started the next day. We've been painting, patching, measuring, nailing, staining and more for the past few days. It's almost done. I am so excited to have a space for shoes, backpacks and coats that will actually get used. I can't wait to show you my new space!

I had planned on taking the kids to a pumpkin patch on Saturday but when my friend showed up with supplies, we started my project instead. Thankfully, the kids took it in stride. I explained that I simply couldn't turn away someone's help, especially since I had asked for it. Cue FHE last night. The patch was a perfect place to go. We didn't have a lot of time there before it was dark. Which was actually perfect for our group, especially the two year old.

--One more space and that cut out would've been perfect. 

--Owen sat on the edge of the hay bale pyramid and watched his siblings in awe. 

--We took a hay ride out to the huge patch of pumpkins. I encouraged them to find a unique pumpkin that wasn't very big. Success. A small, warty pumpkin with a crooked stem.

--Reed absolutely disgusted his older siblings because he kept 'eating' straw during the hay ride. They tried grossing him out about how dirty it was but he kept on, 'Farmers eat it, so can I!'

My Fab Five with their warty pumpkin. I had no idea how expensive they were so we just bought one and.....it was $1.16. We had already bought big carving pumpkins when they were on sale so we didn't need five more big ones. Sometimes my frugal side really shows. I should've thrown caution to the wind and let them all buy a small, warty treasure. They all love the one we bought though. They showed it off to all visitors today, ha.

There are no other five people I would rather be with that these cute kids. Some days are hard and lonely, others hectic and busy. One thing for certain, I love to have each one of these little people by my side whether we are home or at the pumpkin patch.
