FHE Craziness

Tonight we had the missionaries for dinner and it was crazy with a capitol C. The kids (mainly the boys) get so silly, wild, giggly and/or obnoxious when they are here, I almost don't want to feed them. But I do because my goal is to have at least 3 missionaries one day serving some where in the world and they need to be fed too, right?

Most of the time, the elders have come to our home with a great object lesson to share and I love it because it grabs the kids' attention right away (even Reed got in on it when it was time to pull cups away and crash the pyramid, ha. a perfect 2 yr old activity). I'll try and explain it so you can try this lesson too, it was nice, easy and fast. Tonight they taught about the foundations in general and also the foundation of the church and that Christ is always at the head of it. They showed them their name tags and that the words Jesus Christ were the biggest words in the name of our church. They loved inspecting their tags. The first time they set up their little pyramid, they had the names of the original apostles on 12 different cups and lined them up on the bottom. They showed a picture of Christ blessing his apostles by the laying on of hands and set two pamphlets on top of the apostle cups to represent the laying on of hands. Then they made a pyramid out of cups labeled with commandments... tithing, fasting, missionary work, baptism, faith, holy ghost, prayer, service, sabbath day holy, etc and the top cup had a photo of Christ, showing he is the head of the church. Then the kids were asked to take a cup of an apostle off the bottom one at a time to show how the church fell away once the apostles died.

Then they talked about the church today and how we were able to hear our Prophet, President Thomas S Monson last week in General Conference and how 12 apostles surrounded him today, like they did back in Christ's day. They lined up 12 more cups with little cutout photos of our current apostles, laid the pamphlets down and put Christ at the head of the church again, explaining it all again as they went. They talked about the restoration and how the church will never leave the earth again. The kids were nuts while they were here but they listened, really listened. When the kids were asked why the church wouldn't leave if apostles died and Kat answered right away, 'because we get a new apostle in his place.'

I just love that they are getting it. Even if it's absolutely wild and I want to scream, it's worth it and that's all that matters.
