Big Mommy

This post wont make a whole lot of sense without some imagination because I'm not posting video of my singing, ha.

My mom sang things to us all the time growing up. Just regular things she was telling us or asking us to do, she would sing it in opera or hoe down or scary voice or set to the tune of any familiar song. I didn't think much of it except through my 'mom is embarrassing' years. Milo thinks it's so strange because of course, I do it too. Not because I think I can sing, heavens no. I guess I do it because my mom did it and I think it's funny to see their reaction. Plus, one day I'd like to embarrass them too. Maybe I already do. Milo hates when I sing the songs to him. So most of the time I'm just torturing the kids with 'Please take the garbage out', 'Brush your teeth', 'Breakfast time', etc, etc (haha, sing that too). Since I'm no real singer there is no video and these songs get saved for a select few, my family.

One time when Nathan was under 2 I had a client (Connie Earl) that started singing to him asking how he was, where his blanket was and to bring her a toy (something like that but it was a few sentences). Milo was just getting up and getting ready for school and he gave me this look. I gave him one right back that said, 'See! Other people do this too.' Oh I loved when she did that, we had such a good laugh over it. I'm sure she probably doesn't remember it but I do because it was my proof to Milo that other moms sing normal sentences with no warning and for no real reason.

I've been singing stuff to Reed quite a bit since it's just him and I here at home. Here's where you have to use your imagination. Most of the time I've been using a rhyming, hoe down tune and this one I sing like hoe down Jingle Bells. I sing....

'I love my boy. I love my boy. I love my little boy. He's so cute, I love him so, I love my little boy.'

Here's the best part. A couple days ago he decided to sing one back to me. He doesn't get the tune down but it's hilarious to me that he tries. he sings.....

'I love my big mommy. I love my big mommy. I love my biiiiiiggggg mommy.'

He emphasizes the 'big' part and says it over and over. He cracks me up. I guess this could depress me but I'm going to say he's singing about my height, ha. I love this 3 yr old. He's not being too cooperative with a video either so more imagination required.

I am Constantly singing directions on what to do at this house to. I still remember one of your songs from when you were younger Mel; (sung opera style)"Oh solo mio, cocoa chicken cow, of the barnyard mouse". I throw that in every once and a while because Michael HATES it when I'm random---little does he know I'm not being random, just passive aggressive!!

Ha ha....this post took me back a bit. I always would sing random stuff like that to the kids. The "Beast" singing back to you cracked me up. I love that kid.

SO funny Becky! I forget about 'O solo mio' until a cousin reminds me of it! But then it comes flooding back and I could sing the whole song, haha.

Passive aggressive? Hmmm, another family trait??

So funny! That Reed is a kick in the pants! They broke the mold when they made that one! So cute!

What a fun thing to post. I wish you would teach Reed a song on the sly to sing to Milo.

I guess it's because secretly I wanted to be Julie Andrews! My life was just one big musical. Love you.
