- Nathan had his first boy scout camp out. Before he left he crossed his arms and told me, 'Challenge accepted'. Oh dear, he's a boy isn't he? He came home smelling of campfire and was more tired than I'd seen him in months. Success I'd say.
- We went and saw the chicks and ducks at the feed store and it was very eventful (and funny). Kat tried hard to catch the ducks but they would have none of it and actually ran away from her, much to her dismay. Reed held the chicks but when they jumped in his clasped hands, his eyes were as big as quarters. Owen screeched so loud the other customers stared at us. The kids left wanting chickens, ducks, a dog and/or a bunny. They almost wore me down too. Good thing the price tag on the cute puppy was $300.
- We walked around the temple one Saturday night to see the 'popcorn popping'. The fountain Reed always begs to climb in was still empty and he couldn't figure out why I wouldn't let him roam through it before they put the water back in. Moms are no fun.
- College friends, Richard and Jeni came to stay the night during their spring break. We have nine kids between us these days. When we hung out every day years ago, we only had Nathan. Four adults to one baby, those were fun times. The kids had so much fun playing and we had so much fun visiting. Owen and Reed especially liked Richard, Reed wouldn't leave him alone. I'm humbled the Lord would put friends in my life 11 years ago that I still connect with and love so much today. We hadn't seen each other for about 6-7 years (we couldn't even remember) and it felt like it was less than seven days. Not going to let seven years go by again, that's silly.
- This week has been spring break and I'm happy to report it's gone pretty well. Grandma DeeAnn gave us a night in a hotel for all sorts of swimming fun. We had a good time and came home tired and subdued (best part). We've watched lots of movies. I took two middle of the day, 'rest my eyes' naps. I haven't done that for a long time and I loved it. They played with friends, we organized a long list of closets and dressers (best yw helpers ever and the best $$ spent all week) and generally enjoyed our time home away from school. Now it's the slow countdown to summer. I'm looking forward to it.
- Owen was sick last night with a stuffy/runny nose and a low grade fever. He was too uncomfortable to sleep in those conditions so he laid in bed with me wide awake from 130am-230am. He scratched my arm and stared at me but those eyes didn't close. I even took a blurry phone picture I could post. Poor boy was clingy today, I held him a lot. Tonight I'm hoping for a better night's sleep for both of us.
1- The sleeping arrangements in the hotel were- Owen's port-a-crib in the closet section; Dane, Reed and I in one queen bed (with Reed right.next.to.me) and Kathryn and Nathan in the other queen bed (separated by a mountain of pillows). I figured no big deal, what's one night? Wrong! Reed is the worst kid to sleep next to. He moves in his sleep as much as he does when he's awake. It was just like in the movies too. An arm thrown across my face. A leg jabbed in my back. An arm and a leg thrown across my whole body at the same time. If he were older, I'd have sworn he was faking sleep just so he could hit me. Oh it was the worst. I'm sure he would've settled down once he hit the REM sleep but I couldn't wait one more minute. I said a prayer of cleanliness before I did it and then I put him on a blanket on the hotel floor for the night (shudder from the dirtiness). I had to, there was no other choice really.
Before he hit and kicked me to high heaven, he gave me this little gem. He whispered this joke in my ear just before he fell asleep.
Reed- Mom, what do you call a flying skunk?
Me- I don't know what?
Reed- A smellicopter.
Ha. Ha. Ha. He gets his jokes from a show on PBS but the fact that he pulls them out at random times does me in. I could not stop laughing.
2- My cousin gave Reed some clothes that don't fit her son anymore. One day he pulled a polo out of the drawer that has a baseball logo of some sort on the back. He excitedly brought me the shirt and said, 'Baseball! I didn't even know I played baseball!'
It goes without saying though I'll say it anyway, I love five year olds and I love Reed.

It sounds like good, crazy times!
I completely understand what you mean about the Lord blessing you with friends 11 years ago that are so close to you today! Michelle is like that for me!
The hotel sleeping arrangements are hilarious, every time our family attempts to sleep in 2 Queen beds we all have a miserable night.
Melanie!! I love your gold mine dryer post. I need to spend some time catching up on your blog and seeing what you have been up to. Thanks for the biotin tip. I will have to do a hair post to fill everyone in, it's such a downer.
