Long Weekend = Fast Weekend

I had to get rid of the 'Double Axle' sandwich. It was getting to me. For the record, he still says that it was good but hasn't asked to make another one. Hmmmm.

We didn't do much with the 3 day weekend but it still went so, so fast. It always works out like that doesn't it?

Friday-

It was a really hot day and when I picked the kids up from school I knew we needed to go to the pool before it closed (on the 1st). It wasn't supposed to be warm the rest of the weekend and it was 90^ so I loaded them up for one last time. I decided we'd stay until they said they were hungry for dinner and then come home. Surprisingly they never asked for food and swam almost the whole entire time. Reed LOVED the floaty boat and sat in it while I chatted with a friend for over an hour. He would yell and talk to the water every time he splashed it up into his face. It was so cute. I went for my camera to take some end of the year pool photos and NO memory card. Ugh!

Saturday-

Reed had a horrible night (up 3-4 times!) and in my middle of the night hysterics I swore I was taking him into the walk in the next day. Of course morning rolls around and he seems fine. No fever, no coughing, barely a runny nose. Why does this stuff have to happen in the middle of the night and go away during the day? I had talked myself out of going (not because of cost, only because I hate them telling me to 'wait it out, it's nothing') but after insisting on my mom's part, I took him in. Poor baby had an ear infection. So we were able to start meds that night and he's getting better and more importantly sleeping better too.

The kids were really tired from the week of school so it was still an early bedtime so we could attempt to have them well rested for church. It didn't really happen as both boys could not contain themselves in sacrament meeting but we tried. Oh we tried.

Sunday-

The kids were so excited to eat at Marion's. I don't think we'd been there the whole month of August and it hasn't been without them asking for it. We dedicated our meal to The Pioneer Woman and it was so good. Marion made this and this. Both were so, so good. I really loved the potatoes and Milo loved the meat. I made this, divine! Really, I had to leave some at their house and give the rest away. I would have eaten it all!

Yesterday (Labor Day)-

We went and picked peaches. I love these peaches, they are so good and they remind me of growing up. My aunt and uncle have an orchard of mostly cherries and the back few rows are peaches so we are lucky to be able to have our fill of fresh, yummy peaches. The kids love to go out there and play like they are farm kids (read- get super dirty). They helped quite a bit and loved following my aunt and uncle around. Towards the end of filling the boxes I heard my uncle tell Nathan more than once, 'No that's too green. That one's green too. OK, that's good. The box is full.' Such helpful kids.

I had planned on putting Reed in the stroller and letting him just hang out in there while we picked. I knew it wouldn't take long and he would have loved just watching us. My aunt asked if he moved around (not unless he really, really want something and even then he scoots backwards!) and if not there was a box he could sit on. It was so dang cute watching him sit at the end of the orchard row. He kept reaching for the long blades of grass and weeds but never moved around. He was so happy to be outside.

I love that he finally got one big piece of grass. We actually got quite a ways away from him and all he did was yell in our direction to let us know he didn't want to be forgotten. We had four boxes picked in nothing flat. Thanks Aunt Sunni and Uncle Rick! Now we wait a couple days for them to ripes and that's when the real work starts.

We stopped at my grandma's house and woke her up from an afternoon nap. I think she was roasting herself to sleep. It was SO hot in her house. I could hardly stand to sit there. It didn't take long and we broke out the ice cream. She started feeding Reed a Root Beer Float Bar. Go figure he hates most all food but loved, loved this ice cream.

She tried only feeding him the root beer icee part but he would suck it all the way down to the ice cream. It was pretty cute. He is related to his parents, that's all I can say!

He was so sad when she took it away. I think he thought he was getting the whole thing! We had to hide it because he was stretching around my back looking at my grandma wondering where his treat went. It was so funny.

Today-

Dane started preschool. He has been so excited to start that he asks every day if he's almost 5. I made the mistake of telling him that on his first day of school he would be 4 and then when he went back to school 2 days later he would be 5. I know 4/5 year olds have no concept of time but I did it anyway and have answered countless questions concerning the date. We watched the clock for two hours and when it was time to leave he was out the door in seconds.

This is so not my shy, nervous boy but for the first few minutes he couldn't decide how to be. Himself or shy. I made him pose for the standard kid/teacher photo (below with Ms. Candace) and then he went on over to the play-doh. Thankfully they love to clean that stuff up (I hate it).

Last night Marion gave each of the kids a back to school outfit and both of the boys had guitars on their shirts. There was no talking him out of a long sleeve today, he was wearing that shirt no matter what. It never got too hot and he never complained because the gold guitar is in his words, 'so awesome'. Thanks for the first day shirt Gramimi!

Can you believe this van of 4 (!) car seats is nearly empty four hours a week? I can't!! I hope that gives me some time to clean up the floor, ha! I love Reed's foot in this photo, he was singing to himself when I took it. I left the preschool with three empty car seats and met a friend for lunch. We talked (and ate) the whole time Dane was gone. It was fabulous not to be rushed and Reed was a perfect angel.

Dane was so cute when they walked him out to the van (this is a drive thru preschool, ha). He had the biggest smile on his face, holding his teacher's hand looking for me.

The first thing he said when we started driving away was, 'Some people got in trouble, but I didn't'. He definitely made sure he said it with all seriousness when he let me know he listened the whole time. I'll have to get the report on that later. He told me class was so fun because he got to play with play-doh, have recess, play with some friends, have a snack and see his teacher. But he said, carpet time was only 'kinda fun'. Ha ha, that's when he has to sit still. I knew that would be his least favorite.

Tomorrow he turns 5....sigh, I can't believe it!

Those recipes from Pioneer woman look fabulous! Talk about using butter!

Good post. I loved Reed just hanging out on the cardboard. And I believe it when you said Gma Great was roasting herself! Way to save her. :)

Ha! Lucas got a new shirt with guitars as well, and he wore it on the first day of school even though it is long-sleeved and it was 90 degrees... Fashion over comfort, I guess.

Those peaches look amazing! Seriously. I want some.

I love Pioneer Woman.
