I've been avoiding this post for 2 days now but it's what's going on in our life/home and definitely what's on my mind so I write on. Milo called on his way home from work on Friday night with a shaky voice and told me he no longer had a job. I asked him if he was kidding knowing full well what his answer was going to be when I asked it. I felt so bad he had to drive 45 minutes home upset and alone (thank heavens for cell phones, I checked on him a couple times). Kyle and Heidi were here and it was a blessing to have a slight distraction (read....6 cousins running around like crazy), support from family going through the exact same thing and to hear their encouraging words. Thanks guys!!
We are fine. We both know that we are being watched over even though it STINKS! I can let myself get upset or angry or sad and I have, but the emotion that follows is one of sincere gratitude and forces me to not focus on the negative. How can I deny the blessings we have right now? And the ones we've already been blessed with and the ones waiting right around the corner. I can't! I know this is what's right for Milo's career and for our family and we're taking it one day at a time. So if you hear of anything...... :)
We had a funny moment with the kids when we told them before they went to bed. We told them Daddy had lost his job, just like Uncle Kyle and that many more people around the country are without jobs too. Apparently, Kathryn's teacher has taught them a little bit about the economy (which we didn't even mention) and the unemployed because when we were telling them about working together as a family team and not spending extra money, she was nodding her head in agreement and as soon as I finished she raised her hand. She told us all about people buying too expensive of homes, that they couldn't afford them and how lots and lots of people at Macy's lost their job. I love that Macy's stuck out in her mind, it made her story so funny. It was just what we needed to hear to make us laugh. I love how much kids listen! Not to be outdone, the boys started in with their stories and they made us laugh too. Nothing better than laughing!
We did get out for a quick date on Valentine's Day and the distraction was good. I love my Valentine no matter how cheesy that sounds. We laughed and laughed with some friends and we 'forgot' about it for a few hours and it was much needed. I have some photos to post but didn't want to put off posting another night. Maybe tomorrow since I'll have reinforcements home. That's looking for the positives, ha!

Oh Melanie. I am so sorry. The two of you have done such an incredible job getting to where you are (having a family while still in school, working out of your home, working graveyards, etc.) that this certainly does feel like the rug has been yanked out from under your feet.
Scary times. I'm sorry they hit you . . . and Kyle.
You're in my prayers.
Melanie, good luck with everything. What scary times we live in. But you have the right attitude! Keep your faith strong, and everything will work out for the best.
Melanie i am a so sorry. I will keep your family in my prayers and thoughts.
Stay strong. Call me! :)
Oh, Melanie! I am so sorry and am so impressed with your great attitude. I can't believe how many people are going through this....and it just seems to be multiplying!
I will keep your sweet family in my prayers!
Mel, I am soo sorry! Dangit this stinking economy!I know you guys will be o.k. Keep up the good attitude and we will keep you in our prayers. Give Milo a big hug from us!
You two will make things change around for you in no time! I know the Lord is mindful of you and of the situation. I know that the trials we go through are to mold and shape us into what we need to become to progress in the life and prepare us for the next. There will be sunshine after these clouds! I love you!
Im sad about it, I have a hard time with things not seeming "fair". We love you guys, and if things get tough Milo can always tour California with my husband :)!
My stomach dropped as I read this post because I've been in this boat too many times (it was a year ago on the 13th for us). You sound like you're in a good place gratitude-wise so that's a huge blessing. Good luck to you!!!
I'm sorry to hear this guys. You will be o.k. I just know it. If you ever need a place- we have a big basement you are welcome in! Utah is great. We love you and will be praying for you!
We love you guys. I know something will come up very soon. I just hope and pray that it is here in Moses. I'm glad you went to the dance....and had a good laugh over Scott's crazy idea about the commercial. He's a nut. Where does he come up with this stuff?
I'm still thinking of you . . .
Yuck. I wish there was something to say that would make it all seem better, but I know there really isn't. Just keep your head up, trust in what the Lord has in store for you, and have faith. We will keep you in our prayers. Much love your way!
Mel-
I feel your pain. We've been in that boat (we're in our 3rd now. I've been working on Wade's resume and applications for the last month). What a positive attitude of gratitude. Keep your head high. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.
Yikes! I'm sorry to hear this Melanie. Your attitude is very impressive though! I hope your new path finds its way to you soon, and that this stressful time will be brief. You're in my thoughts!
Oh Melly. We're thinking of you all. Trust me when I say, I know how you're feeling. 4 times for us, and it stinks. But there's always a plan even if we don't see it right away. Maybe Kyle and Milo should start their own business:) Not sure what that would be but, hey, just thought I'd throw it out there! Keep laughing!
Melanie, I'm so sorry for you guys! These are definitely scary times. I hope Milo finds something soon. Take care.
Melanie,
This probably doesn't help, but you're certainly not alone right now. I guess the old saying "misery loves company" could apply here. Dang, I wish we were independantly wealthy, we'd hire Milo and Kyle in a flash... but I guess prayers will have to do for now!! Hang in there girl. We love you.
So sorry to hear this! We're thinking of you.
I'm here, and I love you both. You are blessed and so am I for having all of you in my life. Things will work out. Don't worry I'll be looking for jobs for you in Las Vegas.
Milo is so sexy he'll have a job in no time!
Melanie, sooo sorry to hear about that. Praying that Milo will find the perfect job waiting for him soon. And like Anna said...they're always looking for hard workers in the bees. Then you all could come visit us in Cali.
Hey nothing like comment #22 to make you feel better :) Sean lost his job this last summer (totally unexpected) and we were pretty dang poor for a few months but ya know what you get through it. (We are still trying to get caught up hence the internet getting shut off last month!) But we are closer and it gave us the opportunity that we are in now. I did get a little sick of my house being so messy with Sean being home but never complained about him not being home :)! Good Luck you guys and call us if you need anything. I know you probably wouldn't think of us to call but really you can, I know Sean and I would both do anything to help!!!
Good post! You have a good attitude about all your blessings. It really is scary and sure stinks. Hang in there-we'll get through this somehow! We love you guys.
Melanie! I'm sorry. I have watched with angst as my brother has been unemployed for three months now and it stinks. It stinks, it stinks, it stinks. Ugh!
You are in my thoughts. As is Milo. And your sweet kiddos.
Oh, Melanie. That really is terrible. I admire you for all of your positive thinking. I will keep your family in our prayers.
Stinky economy any how!
Melanie! So sorry to hear about the loss, the Lord works in mysterious ways and He knows that there is something out there that will be perfect for you all. You are so strong! You've always been such an amazing inspiration to me and still are. At least you have the most adorable and funny kids to keep your spirits high! My mom talks about Catherine all the time and how adorable she is! :)
Sorry that your family is affected by all this. My husband is looking right now too. Lots of prayers to you and your family.
So sorry about the job! Things sure are scary right now. I hope something better will come along for you guys! Good luck!
I am so sorry to hear about this. I am so amazed at how well you look at things and can see so many blessing. You are a great example to us and to your family. Good luck.
Melanie, I'll be keeping Milo's employment/your family in my sincere prayers. It's amazing how isntead of feeling depressed when reading your post I came away feeling uplifted and a desire to see my problems more in perspective. Thank you!
You guys have been in our prayers. We love you both so much, and Milo will find something. He a great employee and has a great personality! Keep the good attitudes!
I'm sorry about the lay-off. 30% of Ken's company has been laid off in the last month, and those who are staying (including us - so far Ken still has his job) are taking a pay cut.
4 years ago Ken took a lay off package and it was for the best at that time.
Your faith is shining through in this post knowing that you are being watched over. How is it that you can buoy me up in your time of trouble?
Isn't it funny how your readers come out of the woodwork on certain posts? Luckily it is always when we need a boost but I still want to say "I knew you were there!"
Anyway... I am so sorry. Unfortunately I can relate... I hope that you get through this quickly, and "easily" and the other side ends up being way better anyway!
Thinking of you....
